The internet, in perspective.
TrendCoda is an independent trend-discovery project built on a simple idea: finding what's getting attention should be easy, and understanding what the evidence actually shows should be easier.
Why TrendCoda exists
Trend directories can surface a name without giving readers much context. Social posts can spread a dramatic headline while the original evidence is hard to find. And a single “viral score” often hides which platforms, people or measurements it supposedly represents.
TrendCoda aims to provide a grounded starting point for curiosity. Our identity, The Internet, in Perspective, is a commitment to being clear about the limits of each source. We would rather leave a question unanswered than invent a confident explanation.
What you can explore today
The current beta includes selected Google Trending Now RSS search exports for supported countries. Each displayed snapshot identifies the country and collection time, with the source's original link and approximate traffic label when available. Topic pages can show saved appearances in a bounded history, never a fabricated count of searches or an unsupported claim of acceleration.
Our scheduled collector samples the exports periodically. It doesn't capture every event and doesn't record a continuous search-volume curve. The International view represents several selected country feeds, not a comprehensive worldwide ranking. We explain these boundaries on our Data Transparency page.
Where we're headed
Separate source panels will eventually provide YouTube video-chart and Bluesky conversation views, once each integration has been reviewed for permissible use, correct attribution and useful presentation. These sources measure different activities, so combining their positions into a single universal number would be misleading.
The next significant editorial ambition is “The Coda”: explanations of why a topic is attracting attention, supported by original documents, official announcements, dated reporting and clear corrections. A topic deserves a useful answer, but it also deserves an honest “we don't know yet” when the evidence is incomplete.
Standards, independence and contact
We distinguish raw provider observations from conclusions drawn by an editor. A provider's result is not necessarily a verified fact about the outside world. We avoid implying that coincidental publication dates prove causation. Significant corrections should be traceable to the evidence that changed the account.
TrendCoda is not endorsed by, sponsored by or affiliated with Google, YouTube, Bluesky or any source provider whose public material we may reference. Their content and brand marks remain theirs. Advertising may support the site in the future, with ads distinguished from editorial work and privacy notices updated when such services are enabled.
